The Rabin Violin

By Amnon Weinstein, Tel Aviv, Israel; 1995.

This violin is dedicated to Yitzhak Rabin and carries his signature on its label. As the most important Israeli leader who made peace – Amnon and Avshalom Weinstein dedicated to him a violin. Rabin was the chief-of-staff during the Six-Day War and signed the peace agreement with Jordan in Oslo, Norway. He served as the Prime Minister of Israel from 1974-77 and 1992-1995, when he was assassinated. On January 10, 1995, Rabin signed his name on the wood of the belly before the violin was glued and sealed. At the meeting in his office, violinist Shlomo Mintz played for Rabin and his staff. Rabin said that he was not musical but remembered two historical concerts. One was held in Be’er Sheva in 1948 and the second was after the Six-Day War in 1967.
