JHV 73 The Pentagon Violin

This violin was recovered in Germany by an American POW and is presumed to have originally been confiscated from a Jewish musician during WWII. It was turned over to a longtime Pentagon employee and violinist, Irene Levy Haspiel, who kept the violin safe until her death in 1990. Her daughter Robin donated the instrument to the Violins of Hope in hopes that it might be restored to a playable condition. Upon inspection, it was discovered that this violin had been a rather fine instrument that had survived a rough journey that included fire damage. In working on the violin, Amnon Weinstein described it as the most difficult restoration he had ever undertaken. Today, the violin remains playable and is used in Violins of Hope concerts.
